The Greek island Santorini represents much more than just flooded caldera, sunny city of Oia and black volcanic beaches. You will therefore find below, photographies with description of most favourite tourist resorts of the island (Fira, Oia, Imerovigli, Kamari, etc.) as well as of smaller traditional villages, having often something special and unique. Without them, the image of Santorini would not be complete.

Most of the touristresorts are located in the area around the caldera, on the edge of the volcanic crater. The resort of Oia, built in typical Cycladic style and famous for its stunning sunsets, city of Imerovigli with the ruins of the old castle Skaros, capital city of Fira, cultural and economic centre of the island with a picturesque harbour, Megalochori village, known for the wine tastings or for example Akrotiri and its preserved ancient sights.

The probably most visited vacation place is Kamari, located on the eastern side of Santorini and offering the tourists everything for their comfort. We recommend to visit the ruins of the ancient city of Thira. Also, Perissa is a very favourite resort, with a beautiful beach that is ideal for water sports lovers and where also a diving school is working.

However, you should not omit to visit also the inland villages. Although they do not belong to the famous resorts where the first steps of the tourists are leading, it may be their advantage at the same time. If you have the opportunity then visit the small village of Emporio, which lies at the foot of the Profitis Ilias mountain and where, except several nice churches and chapels, also one of the medieval castles Kasteli is rising above the village. Try to visit also the Mesa Gonia village with a famous byzantine church Episkopi Gonia or the picturesque village of Karterados, known for the traditional houses carved into rocks.

The number and variety of hotels on the island is big. Most of them are in the area around the caldera, from where there is very beautiful view on the sea. Beside classical and very luxurious hotels there are also smaller guesthouses, apartments and camping sites available to the people.

There is a regular bus service working between the largest resorts and cities and it is also possible to hire a car or a motorbike at many places and explore the remote parts of the island.
