Caldera

Caldera is a small beach with deep waters located in the southern part of the Greek island of Santorini. Its distance is about 10 km south of the capital Fira.

Caldera Beach is located directly below the ancient archaeological site of Akrotiri, hence the name Akrotiri Caldera Beach. The access road is steeper, so a little caution is in order. The local beach is also sometimes called Balos Beach.

The beach is covered with dark sand, pebbles in places. It's not particularly organised and don't expect sunbeds or umbrellas. However, it does offer its visitors a spectacular view of the caldera and the other islands that make up Santorini. You can refresh yourself at a local taverna serving tasty Greek dishes and simple snacks.

The seabed in this area sinks rapidly into the depths and the local waters are rich in underwater life. It's no wonder there's a diving school that can make your Santorini holiday an unforgettable experience.
