Theologos Resort (Tholos)

Theologos (sometimes called Tholos) is a village with original Greek buildings, supplemented by classic hotel complexes built right by the beach. However, these are smaller hotels or guesthouses and overall Theologos is a quiet tourist resort. Theologos is located right on the coast in the northwestern part of Rhodes, about 20 km from the capital city of Rhodes and about 7 km from the Rhodian Diagoras International Airport.

The heart of the resort, the village of Theologos, consists of several traditional Greek white houses, a few taverns and narrow romantic streets. While strolling through the cobbled streets, you should not miss a visit to the local church of Agios Spiridonas with its beautiful white bell tower. It's a bit livelier right by the coast where the hotels are located, but generally, the resort lives a quiet life.

Theologos is also known for its wine growing and very high quality wine making, so we recommend taking advantage of a visit to this village to try the local wine.

The resort has a long, sandy and pebbly beach of the same name, Theologos, which has a wind-surfing and kite-surfing school. The larger waves and open sea make the beach ideal for this sport.

Theologos and tips for trips in the vicinity

On the outskirts of the village of Theologos there is a small archaeological site with the remains of the temple of the god Apollo. The site is freely accessible. The neighbouring village of Soroni is home to the famous church of Agios Soulas (you have to turn left from Soroni into the inland), which hosts traditional religious festivals, always on 29th and 30th July, which attract people from near and far.

If you are more into the animal world, we can recommend a visit to the Ostrich Farm (Farma of Rhodes), located a few kilometres above the village. Just a short distance inland from Theologos (about 10 km) we can find the famous Petaloudes "Valley of the Butterflies". It is a wooded, sloping ravine with a very unique microclimate that ensures that millions of butterflies of the rare genus Callimorpha quadripunctaria reside here every year from early July to mid-September.

For whom Theologos is suitable

Theologos is a smaller resort on the island of Rhodes, providing its visitors with classic tourist facilities, including shops, taverns and car rental. If you are one of those people who mainly want to relax on the beach with a book in hand on holiday, Theologos could be a good choice for you. But if you're expecting entertainment and nightlife, look more to the northeast coast of Rhodes. Kite-surfers, wind-surfers and fans of other water sports are typical visitors to the resort of Tholos.

Theologos is a very quiet, almost sleepy place. The road to the capital city of Rhodes also passes through here and the bus service from the resort is reliable.

About 3 km to the south there is the Soroni oil-fired power station, visible mainly from the coast, which generates electricity for the whole island.
