Kalithea beach - Rhodes island

Kalithea

The small sandy beach of Kalithea is located in the northeastern part of the Greek island of Rhodes, about 8 km south of the capital city. The famous former thermal baths of Kalithea are located in the same bay.

Kalithea (or Kallithea) Beach forms part of the eponymous tourist resort of Kalithea, which is located at the northeast coast of Rhodes, between the capital city of Rhodes and one of the most popular tourist resorts, Faliraki. However, Kalithea is still one of the quieter resorts.

Kalithea Beach is a narrow and roughly 200 m long beach, covered with beautifully fine sand and then a mixture of sand and pebbles at the entrance to the sea. Kalithea is an organised beach with sunbeds and umbrellas. Due to its gradual entry into the sea, the beach is popular among families with children.

The sandy to sandy-pebble beach of Kalithea lies in a cove, which is, however, mostly rocky. The entrance to the sea is therefore more difficult in other places and the sea bed also sinks faster, but on the other hand the sea is crystal clear and ideal for observing underwater life. There are also several diving schools in the area.

The Kalithea thermal baths are located in the same bay. The therapeutic effects of the cold thermal springs here were known already in antiquity and the baths regained their fame in the early 20th century when the Italians used them. Today, the spa is no longer in operation as such, but the entire spa area was renovated and reopened to the public in 2007. Today it is a beautiful relaxation area with impressive spa buildings decorated with mosaics, set in a peaceful surrounding of palm and pine trees. Several tavernas serve refreshments to visitors and sun loungers and parasols are also available.

In addition to the popular Kalithea Beach, the resort hides many more smaller beaches and coves. If the small beach below the baths is crowded with tourists, don't be discouraged and try to discover some of the adjacent and quieter coves (drive towards Faliraki and follow the signs on the left). The nicest ones have sunbeds and umbrellas and each of these beaches has also its own beach bar, after which it is named - so you can try for example Kokkina Beach, Oasis Beach, Tasos Beach or Nikolas Beach.
