Greek philosophers

Damon of Oe

Damon of Oe was a Greek philosopher who was born in the 5th century BC and worked in Athens in the time of Pericles.

Damon of Oe was a pupil of the school of Pythagoras and taught, among others, Pericles and Socrates. He was a sophist. He was supposed to be a musician.

Damon of Oe was also active in politics. His most important achievement is the law that established compensation for holding office, thus allowing poor people to hold such positions. As a result, he was subjected to a vote to expel him from Athens (called Oscratism).
