Thanatos

In Greek mythology, Thanatos represents the god of death and death itself. He was the son of Nykta (goddess of the night) and Tartarus. Other sources state that his father was Erebos. His brother was named Hypnos (god of sleep).

As soon as a mortal was about to die, Thanatos came and took him to the underworld. There he handed the mortal over to Hades.

Only two people could trick Thanatos. The first was Heracles, who hid behind the tomb where Alcestis was to be buried. As soon as Thanatos arrived, Heracles began to fight him. And after defeating him, he forced him to give Alcestis back her life. The second was Sisyphus, who even temporarily freed humanity from death (other sources say that Sisyphus tricked Hades).
