Nemesis

In Greek mythology, Nemesis is the goddess of vengeance who was the daughter of Nyx (goddess of night) and Erebus (god of darkness). According to other sources, her mother was Dike (goddess of justice) and her father was the titan Okeanos. One source even states that she was born without a father.

Nemesis bestowed happiness or unhappiness on people according to their merits. She persecuted mainly rich people who did not give sacrifices to the gods or did not make life easier for their fellow citizens. She punished them until justice was served. It persecuted Agamemnon, for example, because he grew extremely thin after the Greek victory over the Trojans.

Later, the Greeks identified Nemesis with Adrasteia, "she from whom there is no escape".
