Eurotás

In Greek mythology, Euotas is a river god. He is also the personification of the river of the same name, which flows through Sparta and empties into Laconia Bay.

Eurotas was the father of Sparta, whom King Lacedaimon married. When the king founded the capital of his territory (which was given to him by Euotas), he named it after his wife Sparta.

The other descendants of Euotas were Tias (the nymph after whom the river was named - today the river is called Magulitsas), Cleochareia (a naiad), Pitana (a naiad) and Mekionika (a naiad of the river Cephissos and mother of the Argonaut Euphemus).
