Phrynichos

Phrynichos was a Greek poet and author of tragedies. He was born in 535 BC (Athens) and died in the 5th century BC (Sicily).

Phrynichos was a pupil of Thespius. His fundamental act was the introduction of the female role, but played by a man. His first famous play was about the conquest of Miletus by the Persians. He succeeded in a dramatic competition. Another successful play was about the Greek victory over Xerxes I at the Battle of Salamis.
