Menippos of Gadara

Menippos of Gadara was a Greek philosopher, comedian and poet, a representative of Kynism. He was born in 300 BC in Umm Qais and died in 260 BC in Thebes.

Menippos was originally a slave, but eventually became a citizen of Thebes. He created a literary form later called after his name - Menippean satire.

He died by hanging.
