Epimenides

Epimenides was a Greek Stoic philosopher, writer, oracle and poet who was born in the late 7th and early 6th century BC in Knossos and died in the 6th century BC. He is a semi-mythical person and is counted among the seven sages.

Epimenides was made famous by Eubúlides of Míléthus, a follower of the Megarian school. He made him the hero of his famous logical paradox "Epimenides the Cretan said that all Cretans are liars".

Epimenides was supposedly a friend of Solon. Between 596 and 593 B.C., he was supposed to have ritually cleansed Athens of the plague. Though even this is contradictory, as Plato states that Epimenides visited Athens a full century later.

Epimenides is said to have lived to be 157 years old, and this is because he went to a cave somewhere in Crete in his youth. He fell asleep there and woke up 57 years later without having aged in any way.
