Anacharsis of Skythia

Anacharsis of Scythia was a Greek philosopher of Scythian origin (Iranian nomadic tribes) who wandered through Greek cities to acquire education and enrich his homeland.

Anacharsis' mother was Greek and his father was the brother of the Skythian king. Anacharsis is considered one of the seven wise men of archaic Greece.

Anacharsis was held in high esteem by the Greeks because he was also initiated into the Eleusinian mysteries, which was not the case for outsiders. Upon his return to the Skythian regions, he decided to promote the Greek way of life. He decided to hold a festival in honour of the goddess Cybele. But when his brother saw it, he shot his bow at him and killed him.
