Pandora

In Greek mythology, Pandora is known as the figure who brought evil and suffering to the world. She was the wife of the titan Epimetheus and mother of Pyrrha. She and her husband, Deucalion, founded a new human race after the flood of the world.

When Prometheus stole the fire from the gods and gave it to the people, he also taught them a trade. He made them happy, which displeased the gods. So Zeus ordered Hephaestus to make a beautiful maiden out of clay and water that no one could resist. The gods bestowed many gifts on her: amorous desire (Aphrodite), the art of female work (Athena), seduction, lying and deceit (Hermes), and other gods also added beauty, seductiveness, loveliness, etc. But some gods added among the gifts those pernicious ones which they themselves were glad to get rid of.

Subsequently Hermes brought Pandora to earth and offered her to Prometheus as a wife. But he refused her. So Hermes offered her to his brother Epimetheus, who did not challenge his brother and took her as his wife.

Not long after, Pandora did the bidding of the gods and opened her gift box. Thus, among other things, all diseases, problems and other things were brought into the world. Pandora quickly closed the box, but that left only hope at the bottom.

And so we know the expression "Pandora's box" well today.
