Asklépios

In Greek mythology, Asclepius is a Greek healer who lived in the 13th century BC. He devised a system of healing and knew how to use herbs. Eventually, he was declared the god of healing.

In myths he is often associated with Apollo, who gave his son Asclepius to the centaur Cheirón to raise, from whom Asclepius learned to heal. His mother was Corónis, and his sons Machaon and Podaleirios were famous physicians. His daughter was named Hygieia (goddess of health).

Asklépios perfected his healing so much that he even raised the dead. But this displeased Zeus, who killed him with lightning. However, this angered Apollo, who in turn killed the Cyclops, who forged lightning bolts for Zeus.
