Katovigli Beach - Crete

Limanaki

The small and pleasant sandy beach of Katovigli is located in the southeastern part of the Greek island of Crete, about 120 km southeast of the capital Heraklion (Iraklion). Its shores are washed by azure blue sea.

On the south-east coast of the island is the medium-sized seaside resort of Makrigialos, whose main attractions are good tourist facilities and beautiful sandy beaches, washed by crystal clear sea. And one of these beaches is Katovigli beach.

The small port of Makrigialos forms part of the coastline, and the small beach of Katovigli, sometimes called Limanaki (translated as "small port"), was created in close proximity to it. It is basically the same as Makrigialos beach, only smaller. Katovigli is one of the more organised beaches, equipped with umbrellas, sunbeds and beach showers, and thanks to the fine sand and shallow waters, you'll often see families with smaller children here.

The remains of a Roman villa, inhabited between the 1st and 3rd centuries, have been uncovered near Katovigli and the neighbouring Kalamokania beach. Just a few hundred metres inland, you can visit another archaeological site with the ruins of an old Minoan villa, dating from around the 15th century BC. From the local harbour, cruise ships sail to the nearby islet of Koufonisi.

Further east along the coast, we reach the most popular and famous beach of the resort, Makrigialos Beach, and the easternmost beach is Lagoufa Beach, which is already on the border of Makrigialos and Analipsi.
