Schinaria or Skinaria beach is located on the south coast of Crete, in the Plakias area, about 33 km south of the regional town of Rethymno.

Skinaria is a smaller beach covered with fine, light sand with a mixture of small pebbles. What attracts visitors here the most is the crystal clear sea with its abundant life. Here you can observe a variety of marine fish and other animals, including moray eels and octopuses. The clarity of the water is highly rated by experts and it is not surprising that many of the diving schools in Crete include diving in this bay in their programme. The seabed sinks rather gently, but you may encounter larger rocks and rocky areas on the bottom.

The beach is organised in a gentle way. There is a nice beach tavern ("Garden Tavern") which serves local dishes, rated fresh and tasty by tourists. The owners of the taverna also rent sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach.

Skinaria beach can be reached by a narrow road leading from the village of Lefkogia (about 2 km long). Along the way, be sure to notice the interesting rock that stands in the middle of fields and meadows and in which a large tunnel has been dug (the rock is on the left side of the road).
